An ectomorph’s life can be relatively bittersweet. Bitter being that you struggle to keep the pounds on rather than off, sweet in that your carb tolerance and metabolic rate are what girls dream about. In a world that’s suffering from high obesity rates, you’re the exception. Your natural state is skinny and your muscular tone is light – and that’s fine if you don’t have a problem with it. However, many ectomorphs look to pack on more lean muscle, but just can’t seem to do it. Here are some tips that will help you pack on some more pounds while staying healthy in the process.

Carbohydrates Are Your Friend

While you want to focus on a high caloric intake, much of your diet should consist of carbohydrates. Unprocessed, starchy, and whole carbs are the way to go. In addition to this, drink simple carbs during your workout to give you that much-needed energy boost that many ectomorphs lack. You may already have a grueling workout planned, the more energized you feel, the more you’ll get accomplished.

Factor in Protein

In addition to your workout drink, you’ll want to add a post-workout shake on top of that. They help with recovery, and maximize the progress of the work that you put in at the gym. You can also sneak in some extra calories like almond milk and berries into your diet to top it off. Essentially, you’re going to want to do the opposite of one that’s trying to lose weight – but in a healthier fashion.
